However, the cover is far too busy due to the background image of the faded brick wall and the different font sizes used all over the page. Also the font is far too big so only allows two cover stories to fit on the cover and the main image doesn't stand out enough to grab the reader's attention. On the next draft I will make a cover without a background. The position of the masthead and the special offer are in a good place at the top of the page and putting the masthead in the top left follows the conventions of a magazine as that will be the first thing that the reader will see.
This is my second drafted attempt at a front cover. This time i didn't use a background which made the cover seem less busy but makes it feel empty and the cover stories don't stand out as much as they did before. I used blue and red to compare with the pink and decided i liked red better than the pink. Therefore, the colors i have decided to go with are green, orange and red. there is far too much going on on this cover. the background image is out of focus, the blue doesnt show up against the too dark photo and there isnt any theme or anything linking the cover stories to each other like colour.
On both of these covers, the font used is too formal and too "grown-up" to fit in with the genre and target audience of my magazine.
