Price and publishing

To begin with my magazine was going to appear weekly. But as my target audience was for teenagers and those around my age (14-18) I realised that because they would be in education 5 days a week, then the weekend would be the only real time they would get to go out and buy the magazine and read it as well as have to do school work. That's when I thought I would publish it monthly so that then there is more chance of my audience being able to buy and read every copy. I then looked at other magazines that would be my competition and found the Top of the Pops magazine which was the same genre and age range that my magazine would be targeted at. By making my magazine the price of £2.00 then it would be 20p less than my competition and therefore be the one that readers would buy. Also, my audience research proved that my target audience would buy a magazine at the price of £2.00.

In the top 40 chart, there are about 32 singles from the artists listed that could come under the genre of music i am going to be using for my magazine. The top 10 contains 8/10 and the number 1 single is part of my genre.

Why this genre?

-    The reason why i have chosen to do this genre of music (Pop/chart) is because it is the main type of music that i listen to. The only station that i listen to is Capital FM. this is due to starting to listen to it when i was about 13 because it was the only station that played in my taxi on the way to school. Due to this, in a way it is the type of music i have grown up listening to and i know that a lot of other people around my age have done the same and so would want to buy a magazine based on the songs and artists heard on radio stations such as Capital FM. artists such as Rihanna, Ke$ha, Jessie J, Example, Ed Sheeran and Labrinth are commonly played on the radio station and so would be of interest to those looking for a magazine that includes these people.

The Brief

To design a front cover, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, a minimum of four images must be used.
